Stop Just Doing. Start Doing What Matters.
Three simple filters to ensure your actions create real impact.
We live in a world that celebrates action. We’re constantly told to do more, hustle harder, stay busy. But not all action is created equal. Some action leads us closer to who we want to be, while other action leaves us drained, distracted, or even further away from our true path.
So, what makes an action “good”? Beyond productivity and efficiency, good action has three essential qualities: it is inspired, purposeful, and intentional.
1. Inspired Action: Moving from a Place of Energy and Motivation
The most meaningful actions often come from inspiration, not obligation. Inspired action is fueled by a sense of possibility, excitement, or alignment with our values. It’s the difference between forcing yourself to push through a task versus feeling drawn toward it because it lights something inside you.
Ask yourself before acting:
- Am I doing this because I want to, or because I feel I “should”?
- Does this action energize me?
- Can I connect it to something I’m genuinely curious or excited about?
2. Purposeful Action: Aligning with What Truly Matters
Even inspired action can drift into distraction if it isn’t guided by a deeper sense of purpose. Purposeful action connects to the bigger “why” of our lives, our meaning, values, and vision of who we want to become.
Ask yourself before acting:
- Does this move me closer to the life I want to create?
- Is this aligned with my core values?
- Will this still matter to me in a year?
3. Intentional Action: Guided by Goals and Growth
Finally, good action is intentional. It’s not just about reacting to circumstances, but about choosing actions that align with our goals and growth areas. Intentionality ensures that we are moving deliberately, not just drifting.
Ask yourself before acting:
- What outcome do I want from this?
- How does this connect to my goals or growth areas?
- Is this the best use of my time and energy right now?
A Practical Checklist for Good Action
Here’s a simple guide you can use as a quick filter before taking action. Run your decision through these three checkpoints:
✅ Inspiration – Does this feel energizing or meaningful to me?
✅ Purpose – Is this aligned with my bigger “why”?
✅ Intention – Is this a deliberate step toward my goals?
If the answer is yes to all three, you can be confident you’re moving with “good” action.
Bringing It All Together
Good action is not about being constantly busy or checking endless boxes on a to-do list. It’s about moving in ways that are:
- Inspired by energy and motivation,
- Purposeful in alignment with meaning, and
- Intentional in service of growth and goals.
When these three qualities come together, action stops being a burden and becomes a powerful force for transformation. Every step you take becomes a step that matters.
✨ Pause before your next move. Run it through the checklist. If it’s inspired, purposeful, and intentional…. you’re not just acting. You’re growing.
