What to focus on
Traditional psychology focuses on what make people unhappy and how they can come back to “normal” focusing only on the negative aspects of the human behaviour and mindset.
We need to study what works, to the positive side of the curve, to the outliers. Not just what is broken and unhealthy, but model what works and use its strategies and methods.
We live sadly in a society that pays cult to the “average” in the human behaviour: we look for the average behaviour or outcome. If we only study what is average, we will remain average.
If you only strive for diminishing the bad, you will only attain the average and you will miss out on the opportunity to exceed the average: you can study gravity forever without learning how to fly, you can eliminate depression without making people happy, you can cure anxiety without teaching someone optimism or you can return somebody to work without improving their job performance.
This focus on the negative, tricks our brain into believing that this sorry ratio is reality, that most of life is negative: how much of our interpretation of reality changes our experiences of that reality.
Your goal in life should be to maximise the brain´s potential and how to find meaning and happiness.
