I truly enjoy your newsletters, and I appreciated that with this newsletter you did an excellent job providing a clear distinction as well as the connection between. I have worked in both roles in my career and it can sometimes be tricky to help others understand that a facilitator is not a “meeting organizer” and sometimes the coach is not the star player - thank you!

Hi Amy,

Thank you so much for your kind words — I really appreciate it.

You’re absolutely right: the distinction between facilitation and coaching can sometimes be subtle, and yet the connection between them is very strong. In many ways, I often think of facilitation as coaching at scale — where the “coachee” is not one person, but a whole group.

And I completely agree with your point:

A facilitator is definitely not just a meeting organizer, just as a coach is not the star player. In both roles, the real work is about creating the conditions for others to think better, see more clearly, and move forward together*

Thanks again for taking the time to share your reflection — it means a lot to hear from someone who has worked in both roles.

Warmly,

José
